Today is the start of Week Four of the Kumi Community Foundation’s ONE MILLION STEPS FOR KUMI walk in June 2020. The steps are adding up, our fitness levels must be improving and will we hang up our walking boots at the end or continue to complete a million steps each? Rivers, bridges, woods, corn fields, stiles in all weathers have been part of our walks and I have learnt so much more about my local area often due to the extra distance caused by my poor map reading! Climbing over a six-bar iron gate when I was alone and truly lost must have been a sight worth watching! Walking with friends has been special after weeks of isolation and we have not run out of idle chatter. KCF news from Harriet and Ruth with a report that 770 COVID-19 cases are recorded with one death. We pray that this will not escalate further. The Teso people are used to times of great adversity and so have the ability to survive as best they can but poverty for the very poor is sometimes too great a challenge. We thank you sincerely for your generous support which has enabled us to provide some basic needs for them. Our aim is to raise funds for the Foundation to increase its support for Kumi Hospital during the coronavirus situation and we have achieved so much but we could do more. We have presented infrared thermometers, masks, hand sanitisers and cleansing materials to the hospital and food and soap for the inpatients.
